Is online midwifery as effective as in-person visits?

Yes! While it’s true that we can’t be hands-on via phone or video call, it’s true that most midwifery care is actually provided through talking. We can do a lot via video call - we can assess breastfeeds, review wounds, use model dolls and pelvises to show you how babies move through a woman’s pelvis to be born and so much more. Online and phone appointments are just as effective as in-person care, with satisfaction levels just as high ... if not higher, for the convenience factor! A recent study by the Consumer Health Forum of Australia reports 72% of consumers agreed the outcomes of virtual appointments were the same as it would have been face-to-face.

We do offer in-home appointments for our Sydney patients, but for the most part, our patients get comfortable on their lounges while we discuss all things pregnancy, birth, postnatal and baby together.

We predominantly provide our care online via video call and phone (telehealth) so that we can reach all regional, rural, remote and and city-based areas of Australia. We’re particularly focused on helping rural and remote Mums get the care they need. Studies have shown that virtual sessions are just as effective as in-person support and that satisfaction levels after a virtual experience are just as high.
